What is UAE ROHS?
UAE ROHS (UAE Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive) is a regulation enacted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic and electrical equipment. The full name of the regulation is "UAE Regulation on the Control of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products" (UAE RoHS 2.0) and was issued and implemented by the UAE Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) on November 28, 2017.
UAE ROHS implementation guidelines include
1. Scope of application:
UAE RoHS regulations cover all electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) that rely on electric current or electromagnetic fields to work properly and are designed for alternating current not exceeding 1000 volts and direct current not exceeding 1500 volts. Including large household appliances, small household appliances, etc.
2. The implementation of UAE RoHS regulations is based on the following principles
The full application and common interpretation of the scope of products applicable to the RoHS Directive between member states.
The premise is that the products within the scope of the directive meet the requirements.
The self-declaration of the producer.
Specific applicable product categories of UAE RoHS
1. Home appliances, audio and video, IT, toys, power supplies, lamps, etc
2. Disinfection and sterilization products
3. Dangerous products such as batteries, chemicals, and magnetics
4. Beauty or medical products
5. EMC rectification of products (conduction test, radiation test, static test, lightning test, harmonic test, surge test, safety test)
Why should companies follow ROHS
If the product does not meet the requirements of UAE RoHS, the company will face penalties such as recalling non-conforming products or canceling the certificate of conformity. Manufacturers need to ensure that the product is consistent with the declaration of conformity and update the corresponding changes in the technical documents.
